These Help guidelines are just to get us up and running during the formative stages. They'll evolve as the Stopmo Wiki does.

Contents

[edit]
To create a new article
  1. Go to the Main Page and select Edit.
  2. Find the place in the Preliminary Table of Contents where you think the article should appear.
  3. Type in the title of the article you'd like to contribute, surrounding your title with double square brackets. Here's an example of what it should look like in the Edit window: [[My New Article Title]]
  4. Select "Show preview" to make sure it looks OK. Be careful with spelling and style because it's slightly complicated to edit a page's title once it's created.
  5. When you're happy with your title, select "Save page."
  6. Now look at the Contents list. You should find your article title in Red. Click on your newly created link.
  7. You will be taken to a new page with a warning that you've followed a link to a page that doesn't exit yet. If the Edit window doesn't automatically appear, select Edit.
  8. Enter your article's text in the Edit window, hit "Show preview," check your spelling and grammar, and when you're satisfied, select "Save page."

To link to an existing Stopmo Wiki article

If, in your article, you wish to link to an existing article within the Stopmo Wiki, type the exact title of that article (including capitalization) and put double square brackets around it. For example, I link to the Main Page here by typing [[Main Page]] in the Edit window.

[edit] To create an external link

Suppose you want to link to a specific web page that's not part of the Stopmo Wiki, such as StopMotionAnimation.com. To create that link, you type [http://www.stopmotionanimation.com/ StopMotionAnimation.com]

In other words, you type a single left square bracket, followed by the complete URL of the link, followed by a single space, followed by the name of the link as you wish it to appear here, followed by a single right square bracket.

Note that without both the space and name after the URL (i.e., [http://www.stopmotionanimation.com]), the link will still show up, but it will be given a number, such as [1]

[edit] To insert an image

The Wikimedia software seems to accept .jpg and .png files. There are many options for display. Complete instructions can be found at the Wikipedia Picture Tutorial Page. Here is a quick 'n' dirty, no-options version:

  1. Upload your image using the "Upload file" button at the lower left side of the Stopmo Wiki window, in the "toolbox" menu.
  2. In your article, type [[Image:Yourimagename.jpg]], where you subsitute the real name of your image for "Yourimagename."

[edit] Playing around to figure things out

Go to the Test Sandbox page to experiment with formatting and editing options.
